Wijtschate was in French and British hands until 1 November 1914; from June 1917 to April 1918; and from 28 September 1918 until the end of the war. The fighting was particularly heavy here in November 1914 and April 1918. R.E. (Royal Engineers) Farm was the name given to a farm standing to the west of the road between Wulvergem and Wijtschate.
