Permanent Exhibition 'Landscape and war: 1914-1918'

This exhibition explains in an easy-to-understand manner the influence of the hills of Heuvelland on the course of the First World
War. The traces of the war that you can still discover in the landscape today are also explored in detail. Visitors shouldn't expect to find a neat display of recreated uniforms, etc., like you can find in many other museums, but rather an extensive collection of relics from the battlefields, which show just how fierce the fighting really was, both above and below ground. Hundreds of different objects and the remains of trench structures will tell their own story of how they found their way into the Flemish earth 100 years ago and also how they were rediscovered in more modern times, both by interested individuals and professional archaeologists. This exhibition
supplements a more general exhibition about archaeology and the First World War
