Heuvelland! The land of hills… although we call them mountains: The Red Mountain, the Black Mountain, the Scherpenberg and Mount Kemmel. In the flat Flemish landscape close to the French border, they are visible from miles away. It is wonderful countryside for a breathtaking cycle ride. This Panorama route will take you to all the places in Heuvelland with the very best views. 'Little Switzerland' on the flanks of the Scherpenberg looks across towards Mount Kemmel; the Lettenberg spur offers a fine vista of the Wijtschate ridge; on a clear day, it is possible to see the North Sea from the top of the viewing platform on the 'Entre Deux Monts' wine estate; the tomb of the three murdered priests overlooks the valley of the River Leie (Lys); the vantage point at the Walletjes shows you all our 'mountains' in a row... Not tired yet? The icing on the cake is the Belvedere tower on Mount Kemmel, with its 30 haikus that will help you to ponder and reflect as you gaze out over the beautiful plains of Flanders.
A cycling route of 34 kilometres, following the network of cycling junction points (see the map below).
