Oosttaverne Wood Cemetery

The Oosttaverne Line was a German defensive line running north from the River Leie (Lys) to the Ieper-Komen (Ypres-Comines) Canal, passing just to the east of the hamlet of Oosttaverne. This line was captured on 7 June 1917, the opening day of the great mine battle of Messines. A total of 1,119 Commonwealth war dead are now buried here, of whom 783 are unidentified.

The cemetery covers an area of 4,339 m² and is enclosed by a low natural stone wall.
